Sustainable tourism in Sardinia
The commitment of Torre del Porticciolo camping village to the environment
If you're looking for seaside villages and campsites in Sardinia that combine comfort, nature, and environmental responsibility, Torre del Porticciolo is a conscious and responsible choice. Located in Alghero, in the heart of the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park, this camping village embraces sustainable tourism practices to preserve and enhance the Mediterranean ecosystem.
Sustainable tourism is not just a trend, but a necessity: traveling in a more ethical and eco-friendly way today means safeguarding the beauty of our landscapes and the well-being of all living beings for the future.

What is sustainable tourism?
Sustainable tourism is based on three fundamental principles:
- Respect for the natural environment
- Appreciation of local cultural heritage
- Economic development of host communities
For a tourism facility, this means responsible resource management, waste reduction, promotion of eco-friendly transportation, and hospitality that does not compromise the quality of local life.
Torre del Porticciolo's Environmental Commitment
1) A Unique Location Within a Natural Park
Torre del Porticciolo camping village is nestled within the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park, a protected area rich in biodiversity and unspoiled, breathtaking landscapes. The entire resort is surrounded by Mediterranean pine forest, just a few steps from one of the most picturesque bays in northwestern Sardinia.
2) Waste Management and Recycling
One of the most important aspects of sustainability is waste reduction. Torre del Porticciolo has implemented a recycling system and actively raises guests’ awareness of eco-friendly practices. All guests are required to separate their solid waste (glass, plastic and aluminum, paper, general waste, and organic waste) and dispose of it in the appropriate containers.
Recycling is not just a legal obligation, but an ethical and civic responsibility. It helps ensure a better future for our children by respecting the environment and avoiding the waste of valuable, reusable resources. Just consider: three aluminum cans are enough to make a pair of glasses; thirty plastic bottles can become a chair seat; and every recovered glass bottle can be turned into a brand-new one.

3. Renewable Energy, Water and Energy Conservation
We have a 150kW photovoltaic system and several solar thermal panels installed on the roofs of the village campsite’s restrooms and in many of the accommodations. This allows us to heat over 25,000 liters of water using renewable solar energy, with zero environmental impact.
We also adopt water-saving systems in shared bathrooms and throughout our accommodations. For example, we have installed timed faucets to encourage mindful, waste-free use of this precious resource. Our modern toilets are designed for low water consumption. Additionally, for cleaning restrooms and common areas, we use only biodegradable detergents certified with the Ecolabel mark. Our on-site water treatment system recovers up to 70% of used water, which is then reused for irrigating the perimeter areas of the resort.
As for lighting systems, we have installed low-consumption fixtures that reduce energy use by 75%. Likewise, all emergency lights and perimeter lamp posts are equipped with autonomous solar panels.
All chalets, Mediterranea Suites, and Bungalows feature independent solar thermal systems with a 200-liter storage tank. Lastly, we have equipped accommodations with inverter air conditioners that operate with a special card system, allowing for sustainable energy consumption control.
4. Sustainable Mobility
Surrounded by nature, and to reduce noise pollution caused by vehicles moving around the campsite village, we have chosen to prioritize the use of electric vehicles. All guests have access to two charging stations for electric cars within the property.

Recognition of Our Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
All the investments we have made, continue to make, and will keep making in the future have led us to become a Legambiente-certified campsite since 2019.
We are also proud to have received the national environmental quality award as the best facility located within a National Park for the services provided.
But for us, this is just the beginning. For example, every year we plant 2,000 new tree species from around the world. Because protecting our land and the environment is the most important investment in the future—a legacy for those who will come after us.
